When the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED launched last year, it was such an exciting addition to the market. Asus claimed it is a response to users’ desires to achieve the ideal balance between mobility and productivity in their modern 24/7 lifestyles, eliminating the need to compromise when working in different environments — in the office, at home, while traveling or when relaxing — by elegantly incorporating two screen sizes and multiple usage modes into one highly portable device.
Zenbook 17 Fold OLED comes with a full-size ErgoSense Bluetooth keyboard and touchpad that massively increases its versatility, allowing use in Desktop mode, Laptop mode (with Bluetooth keyboard and with virtual keyboard), Tablet mode, Reader or Extended mode. In each mode, the easy-to-use window management tools — such as Mode Switcher — in the ScreenXpert 3 app allow multiple split-display configurations and flexible app layouts for enhanced productivity.

Display and Sound Performance of the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED
One of the main attraction of the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED is the display panel it is powered with. It has a 2.5K or 2560 x 1920p pixel resolution. The screen has a 4:3 aspect ratio but that changes to 3:2 if you decide to fold it into half and use it as a traditional laptop. The display itself delivers excellent colours and contrast as expected from a premium OLED panel. This stunning Dolby Vision-certified display has a 100% coverage of sRGB, 98% AdobeRGB, DCI-P3 gamut and is also PANTONE®️ Validated for colour accuracy and TÜV Rheinland-certified for reducing harmful blue light. The display panel can achieve 500nits of peak brightness while playing HDR or Dolby Vision content.
For immersive entertainment, the foldable OLED touchscreen — which has a 0.2 ms response time and a 60 Hz refresh rate — is accompanied by a powerful quad-speaker Harman Kardon-certified Dolby Atmos sound system which adds an exciting new spatial dimension to the sound for an ultra-realistic listening experience. The speakers are driven by a smart amplifier that maximizes volume — up to 3.5X louder than a standard amplifier — while minimizing distortion, ensuring crystal-clear sound for entertainment or communications.
Components and Connectivity Performance of the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED
The Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED comes equipped with a Core i7-1250U processor that boasts two performance cores, eight efficient cores, and a total of 12 threads. It also has 16GB of memory and a massive 1TB solid-state drive. The Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics act as a substitute for a standalone GPU. Despite its form factor, the system isn’t designed for easy upgrades, although Asus claims it is possible to change the SSD with some effort.
Ports connectivity is limited to two USB-C ports on the upper left corner and the right side, both of which support Thunderbolt 4. (Either accommodates the AC adapter.) The Fold also includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and a 720p webcam that produces decent video quality.
Keyboard
The Bluetooth keyboard is designed to be placed inside the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED. Hence, it has a slim profile of only 5.5mm and weighs 300 grams. One good thing about the Bluetooth keyboard is that it comes with Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity which means it can be paired with up to two devices. The Fn keys can be used to access additional features like volume increase / decrease, brightness increase / decrease, access webcam, turn on / off touchpad, print screen, and more.
In many ways, the UX 9702 is an impressive multidimensional laptop. One which has laid a marker for what is to come with ASUS. The challenge however is that it is a pricy laptop at $3,500.
