Over the last few weeks, the British Council has successfully put together a series of spectacular events which have done the job of entertaining, enlightening, and connecting creatives and lovers of the arts across different locations in Nigeria. From discussions about women in creative spaces, monetising creative work, and multiple art showcases and events, the Council has certainly raised the bar with regard to spurring relevant conversations and giving artists a platform. 

Happening across Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and Port Harcourt, the events mutually benefited both the attendees and artists. While the former got to experience varying levels of art in different forms, the latter not only gained heightened exposure but got to sell their artwork too. 

The British Council is having yet another series of events this weekend that promises to be one for the books! There are going to be events in different cities ranging from Lagos to Abuja and even Portharcourt! In Lagos, The Finale holds on Saturday, 26th March. The Lagos #iam4art finale is stacked with events that are set to exceed expectations. It kicks off with an Adire-making session at 2 pm, followed by a sip and paint at 4 pm.

If you prefer motion pictures, then the film preview will be showing “The Money Wives of Patrick” amongst other films. There will also be a fashion show by 5:30 pm, showcasing the rich and exotic designs of Nigerian designers. Attendees can also while away the evening with smooth Jazz and Dance by 6:15 pm. Finally, to bring it all to a wonderful close is a performance by Yinka Davies at 7 pm. 

On the same day in Abuja, the British Council will be hosting a dance competition that will see 5 dance groups battle it out for the grand prize of N200,000 amongst many other prizes. Titled “Centre Stage”, the dance crews will do their best to prove that they are head and shoulders above the other crews in Abuja. To take the edge off even further, there will be comedians to lighten the atmosphere with their jokes, as well as food, drinks, and top-notch entertainment in Abuja! In Port Harcourt, WEARABLES is a fashion designers’ showcase that is set to portray fashion coming to life in different patterns, designs, and threads.

Happening on Saturday 26th March between 12 and 6 pm, 15 of Port Harcourt’s top creatives will be showcasing their designs at their very best. Come and experience the beauty of fashion in what will be an evening full of style and art. The showcase will be an opportunity for designers to display beauty and elegance in their fashion. However, this event doesn’t only celebrate fashion but also puts the spotlight on the creativity and cultural identity that outfits carry along with them. 

More than dance competitions and art and fashion showcases, these events are really about community. They are about connecting different sets of people who are diverse in their lifestyles and expression but united in their love for all things art.
