Enugu polls: PDP protesters vow to keep occupying INEC office

Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in Enugu State, Peter Mbah, have vowed to continue occupying the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, headquarters in the state until he is declared winner of last Saturday’s guber election in the state.

The protesters, who mounted several canopies with food and drinks at the WAEC Junction just before the state headquarters of INEC, disagreed with the commission on its decision to suspend the announcement of the final results and declaration of Mbah as the winner of the governorship contest.

They also accused INEC of adopting different rules from the one it used during the national collation of presidential election results, where it ignored complaints from the agents of opposition parties.

Katsina only female candidate concedes defeat

Hajiya Hauwa Lawal Jibrin, the only female candidate in Katsina State for the 2023 general elections has conceded defeat for the election into the house of assembly seat for Katsina Local Government, stating that “power belongs to God and He gives it to whomever He pleases.”

Candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 18 polls won 32 of the 34 seats, PDP won one in Kankara while that of Kankia was declared inconclusive.

Hajiya Hauwa who made her decision known at a press briefing held in Katsina, on Tuesday, congratulated the Katsina governor-elect, Dr Dikko Umar Radda.

She implored him to focus more on the welfare of youths and women whom she said are worse hit by the plight of insecurity and economic hardship experienced in the state.

Soludo re-echoes call for Kanu’s release

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra state has called on he President-elect, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB, Nazi.

Soludo made this call when he congratulated Tinubu for his victory at the recently concluded Presidential election in the country.

In a press statement issued by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Soludo maintained that Kanu’s presence is needed around the table as an important stakeholder in discussions about healing and sustainable peace in the South East geopolitical zone.

Enugu polls: LP supporters besiege INEC office, say Edeoga won

Members of the “Obidient Movement,” as well as the supporters of the Labour Party governorship candidate for Enugu State, Hon. Chijoke Edeoga, have besieged the premises of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, Enugu, insisting that Labour Party won the election.

The irate supporters who had been keeping vigil for two days along the major roads leading to INEC office since security agents barricaded the road, mounted canopies and have stayed put until they reclaim their supposed mandate.

The supporters also pulled resources together and have been eating and drinking since the vigil began.

Speaking to our correspondent on the incident, the Enugu State chairman of LP, Barr. Casmir Agbo said that they were there because they didn’t want PDP to manipulate the outcome of the election.

Local Government workers in Oyo State have congratulated the re-elected Governor Seyi Makinde, describing his emergence as a renewed hope and victory for local government staff across the state.

The President of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Oyo State chapter, Comrade Adeogun Olusegun stated this in a press statement made available to journalists in Ibadan on Tuesday.

Adeogun said civil servants in the state particularly local government workers have never had it going so smoothly and less stressful under any administration than the Makinde led government.

Abia polls:Even if PDP is allocated all votes from Obingwa, Otti still leads – Aide

Ferdinand Ekeoma, Media Aide to the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, has argued that even if the entire accredited voters in Obingwa Local Government Area were allocated to the candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Okey Ahiwe, Otti would still win the poll.

Ekeoma who addressed a press conference Tuesday in Umuahia, explained that Otti according to the results declared by INEC from the 16 Local Government Areas, Otti is maintaining a comfortable lead with 92,720 votes as he polled 171,747 as against PDP’s 79,477.

He further explained that since only 26,884 voters were captured as accredited voters from Obingwa LGA according to INEC record, Otti would still win the contest even if the entire votes from Obingwa were awarded to the PDP.

Ogun polls: Lawyers demand review of declaration of Abiodun as winner of Saturday’s election

A group of lawyers, under the aegis of ‘Concerned Indigenes of Ogun State’ (CIOS) has given the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) six days ultimatum to review the declaration of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dapo Abiodun as the winner of Saturday’s election in the State.

The group issued the ultimatum in an open petition to INEC, saying the declaration of Abiodun was against the requirements and provisions of the electoral act.

INEC had on Sunday declared Abiodun the winner of the election after polling 276,298 votes, while Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 262,383 votes to come second.

Addressing newsmen in Abeokuta, the state capital, Coordinator of the group, Femi Oniyide alleged that, the election was fraught with violence, manipulation and irregularities.

According to him, election results from 100 polling units in 14 local government areas of the State were either cancelled or election not held due to violence and BVAS malfunctioning.

THE International Society for the Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law, Intersociety, on Tuesday, told the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to avoid setting Enugu and Abia State on fire by not manipulating the results of the governorship elections in the two state.

A statement by Intersociety, entitled, “To avoid Enugu and Abia States going up In flames, nothing must happen to their governorship results” told INEC that its integrity is seriously challenged with its conduct of the governorship election particularly in Enugu and Abia states.

The intersociety statement which was signed by its Board Chairman Emeka Umeagbalasi, Head, Democracy and Good Governance Program, Chinwe Umeche Head, Campaign and Publicity Department, Chidinma Udegbunam, commended Prof Maduebibisi Iwe and Prof Nnenna Oti, the Collation Officers for Enugu and Abia states respectively for their uprightness in not succumbing to pressure to rig the election against any candidate.

APC’s Bwacha Congratulate Taraba Governor-Elect

Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to quickly declare the results of Abia State governorship election held on Saturday to avoid bloodbath in the state.

Similarly, Abia State human rights and pro- democracy groups have called on the INEC to save the state from avoidable crisis by resolving the logjam over the March 18 governorship election.

NBA Chairman, Umuahia branch, Jasper Ejimofor who made the call during a press conference in Umuahia, said that available evidence from INEC indicated that the Labour Party candidate, Dr Alex Otti, won the election, hence, he urged the electoral commission to declare him winner without further delays.

PDP’s Agbu Wins Governorship Election in Taraba

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Taraba state, Agbu Kefas, has been declared winner of the March 18 elections.

The state Collation Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. M.A Abdulaziz, announced this, Tuesday after collating results from the 16 local government areas of the state.

According to him, Agbu won the election haven polled 257,926 votes while Prof. Sani Yahaya, of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, polled 202,277 votes as first runner up.

Candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Emmanuel Bwacha, emerged second runner up by polling 142,502 votes.

Speaking after the declaration, elated Agbu, thanked voters of the state for keeping faith with the PDP and reaffirming the party’s dominance at the poll.

He also assured that his administration will hit the ground running from day one immediately he assumes office.

Labour Party fails to secure a state as APC, PDP lead

Contrary to expectations of the ‘Obidients,’ supporters of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, that the party will win some state governorship seats in landslide particularly in the South-East region of the country, Labour Party has failed to secure a single state.

As of today (Tuesday), the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has declared official results in 24 out of the 28 states where governorship elections were held.

In the results declared so far by INEC, the ruling party, APC and the PDP have dominated the wins by clinching 15 and 8 states respectively, while the NNPP won only in Kano state.

Abia: PDP accuses INEC of partiality, wants stoppage of BVAS audit

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of partiality in the collation of governorship election in the state.

PDP also demanded the stoppage of audit of the Bi-modal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, machines used in Obingwa, claiming that INEC is caring out audit without involving agents of the ruling party.

PDP, in a statement by its Acting Publicity Secretary, Elder Abraham Amah, cautioned INEC on the legal implications of auditing the BVAS without court order.

INEC declares Adamawa guber poll inconclusive

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Adamawa State governorship election inconclusive.

The collation officer said a winner could not be declared because the number of collected PVCs at over 37,000 is more than the margin of lead for Governor Ahmadu Fintiri over his challenger Aishatu Ahmed.

Recall that the Returning Officer for Adamawa Prof Muhammed Mele of the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, had earlier rejected the manual result sheet from the Fufore Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

While the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 26,329 and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 21,721 in the result sheet, the INEC’s Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that the APC got 24,777 votes, and the PDP 20, 777.

But the collation officials rejected the results as declared by the local government returning officer and accepted that of the IReV as authentic one. They say the results as declared by the Fufore LGA returning officer did not tally with that on the IREV portal.

Zulum re-elected in Borno

The INEC Returning Officer in Borno state, Professor Jude Tsammani Rabo, Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State, has declared Babagana Umara Zulum of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as governor-elect having polled 545,543 votes.

Zulum defeated his closest rival, PDP’s Mohammed Ali Jajari, who got 81,850 votes.

Catholic priest is Benue’s new Governor after landslide victory

The candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Benue state, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has been declared the winner of last Saturday’s governorship elections in the state by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The APC candidate defeated his closest rival, Mr. Titus Uba, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who came a distant second, with a margin of 251,020 votes.

Declaring the result of the election, the State Returning Officer, Professor Farouk Kuta, said he was relying on the “provisions of section 24(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 and the Electoral Guideline of INEC to the declare the result of the election” despite the pending election in Kwande LGA.

Prof. Kuta stated that the APC candidate polled a total of 473,933 votes to defeat Mr. Uba of the PDP, who garnered a total of 223,913 votes.

The candidate of the Labour Party, LP,  Herman Hembe scored 41,881 votes to come third.

A breakdown of the result declared by the electoral body showed that the APC won in 17 local government areas of the 23 in the state, PDP took four, while LP took one.

The declared result also indicated that the total valid votes in the election stood at 756,903, the total votes cast was 768,404, while the rejected votes in the election stood at 11,499.

APGA rejects Abia guber poll, alleges manipulations

The All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Abia State, has rejected the results of the March 18 governorship election in the state declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

APGA, in statement by its Chairman, Rev. Augustine Ehiemere, alleged that “results so far announced did not in any way reflect the will of the good people of Abia, as demonstrated at the various polling units.”

The party said: “We are highly disappointed that the votes cast for our candidate, Professor Greg Ibe, were suppressed and not credited to him.

“Regrettably too, there were brazen irregularities including snatching of ballot papers, over voting in favour of the PDP, unprecedented manipulation and violence against the opposition.

“Most of the results were collated without recourse to BVAS machines, hence, they cannot be relied upon.”

‘We’re going to court’, Omo-Agege rejects Oborevwori’s victory

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State, has described Sheriff Oborevwori’s victory as too fraudulent, damning and daring for it to be acceptable in any decent society, adding that he would challenge it in court.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had declared Sheriff Oborevwori, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate as the governor-elect following the March 18 governorship election.

According to the state’s Returning Officer, Professor Georgewill Abraham, PDP’s Oborevwori polled 360,234 votes; APC’s Omo-Agege, 240,229 and LP’s Ken Pela, 48,047.

However, reacting in a statement by Sunny Areh, his Chief Press Secretary, Senator Omo-Agege said the declaration was made despite the myriad of infractions and acts of impunity on the part of PDP in the course of the election.

He noted that the infractions were brought to the attention of INEC with ‘incontrovertible proof’.

Omo-Agege said the election was characterised by massive fraud, unprecedented vote buying and voter suppression perpetrated by the PDP.

He urged his supporters and APC faithful to be calm, assuring them that PDP’s “pyrrhic celebration of a stolen mandate will be short-lived,” and he (Omo-Agege) will be sworn in as governor on May 29.

Collation of the Delta State Governorship election resumed Monday morning at about 9:40 am with the announcement of results from Ughelli North Local Government Area, where the APC gubernatorial candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, polled 34,955 votes.

The PDP gubernatorial candidate, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, scored 15,198 votes while the Labour Party candidate, Mr Ken Pela secured 1,438 votes. The collation of Ughelli North brought the total number of Local Government Areas so far announced to 22.

Winners emerge in Burutu Constituency 1,2 in Delta

Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Burutu Constituency 1, Delta State, Mr. Anthony Ebitonmo Alapala, has defeated the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Asupa Forteta of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2023 State House of Assembly elections in Burutu local government area of the state.

This is just as Hon. Pereotu Oloye of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, emerged winner in Burutu Constituency 2, who defeated his closest contender, Mr. Enetimi Biriala Government of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Mr. Alapala, who contested with the incumbent and lost in the 2019 general elections, was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, yesterday, after polling 7, 296 votes to beat Forteta, who scored 6, 416 votes.

In the same vein, Hon. Oloye of the PDP polled 5, 493 votes to beat Mr. Government of the APC, who scored 5, 061 votes.

Sule wins Guber seat in Nasarawa

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state has been declared the winner of the governorship election held last Saturday.

Announcing the results this morning in Lafia, the state returning officer, Professor Tanko Ishaya, Sule having pulled the highest votes, spread, and having satisfied the law, is declared the winner of the election in Nasarawa State.

Recalled that Governor Sule had pulled a total of 347,209 to defeat his closest rival, Dr David Emmanuel Ombugadu of the People’s Democratic party PDP who scored 283,016 votes.

INEC declares NNPP winner of Kano guber

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, governorship candidate, Abba Kabir Yusuf, winner of last Saturday’ election in Kano State.

Yusuf defeated his close rival, the All Progressive Congress, APC, candidate, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, with a margin of over 100,000 votes.

The INEC Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Ahmad Doko Ibrahim, declared the results at the Kano Collation Centre, INEC headquarters in Kano.

Yusuf polled1,019,602 while the candidate of APC, Nasir Yusuf Gawuna polled 890,705 to come second.

Akwa Ibom: PDP’s Akpabio wins

THE candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, state House of Assembly poll, Prince Ukpong Akpabio, has been declared winner for Essien Udim state constitency seat by the Independent National Electoral Commissíon, INEC.

Akpabio, polled a total of 15,073 votes to defeat the candidates of APC and YPP, who scored total of 11, 057and 7,217 votes respectively.

He is nephew of Senator Godswill Akpabio, a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, and Senator-elect of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Akwa Ibom North West senatorial district.

Other State House of Assembly results so far obtained showed that the PDP also won Nsit Atai, Urueoffong Oruko, Esit EKet/Ibeno, and Ukanfun and Onna.

For Urueoffong/Oruko, PDP’s Mrs. Precious Selong polled a total of 4,791 votes to win. The APC scored 3,425, and YPP scored 3022.

Also Prince Anefiok Attah of the PDP won Nsit Atai state constituency seat with a total of 10,215 votes, while the APC and YPP candidates scored total of 3,371 and 1,478 votes respectively.

The member-elect for Onna state consituency, Sunday Udofot Johnny, scored a total of 18, 731 votes, the APC 1,358 votes and YPP 1, 731 votes.

Again, Elder Emem Udom of PDP polled 11,821 votes to emerge winner of Ukanafun state Assembly seat, while APC scored 5,663 votes and YPP scored 1,186 votes.

In the same vein, Engr. Udobia Udo of PDP won Esit Eket /Ibeno state Assembly poll with a total of 15, 618 votes, while the APC polled a total of 3,203 votes and YPP got 3533 votes.

Adamawa boils as INEC stops declaration of governorship results

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Rev. Fr Hyacinth Alia, has extended his lead in the governorship results released by Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from 17 Local Government areas of the state to 156,736 votes.

Results released from six more LGAs including Gboko, Ohimini, Guma, Ushongo, Ogbadibo and Oju indicated that the APC candidate won in five LGAs with additional 133,407 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate Titus Uba won in Guma with additional 71,363 votes.

The tally of votes so far garnered by both candidates shows that the APC candidate has scored 327,962 votes while the PDP candidate has polled 171,223 votes.

The major opposition party in Kaduna, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is in the early lead with 28,147  votes. 

The Collation was ongoing at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Kaduna and commenced at about 2:20 pm. So far, results has been released from seven local government areas of Kaura, Giwa, Sanga, Kajuru, Makarfi, Ikara, and Jaba.

Guber polls: INEC declares PDP winner in Akwa Ibom

The ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has won the 2023 Gubernatorial polls in a grand style, polling a total vote of 354, 348 to beat 17 other political parties in the state.

In the results announced by the State Returning Officer, Professor Emmanuel Adigioh Vice Chancellor, Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State Young Progressive Party came a distant second with 136,262 votes, while the All Progressive Congress came third position polling total votes of 129,602.

The Young Progressive Party won in two local government areas of Ibiono Ibom and Ikono.

The PDP equally won Essien Udim, the stronghold of Senator Godswill Akpabio, an APC chieftain, and Senator-Elect on the platform of APC.

Ogun Assembly:26-years-old Kashamu’s son, Rasheed wins

Rasheed Kashamu, son of the late Senator Buruji Kashamu has been announced the winner of the House of Assembly election into Ijebu North Constituency 1.

He polled 10, 004 to defeat the incumbent member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Sylvester ‘Niyi Abiodun, of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

At 26, the younger Kashamu will probably be the youngest House of Assembly Member in Ogun state and nationwide in this dispensation.

Kashamu has a B.Sc in International Business and Management from Brunel University, London. He also has a Master of Science degree in International Finance and Investment from the University of Surrey.

PDP’s Oborevwori in early lead, wins 12 LGs in Delta

Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, Sunday, maintained his early lead in 12 out of the 14 local government areas so far announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

In the results from the 14 Local Government Areas announced by the State Collation Officer, Prof Georgewill Owuneri, the PDP Gubernatorial Candidate, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, won in 12 local Government Areas, while the APC governorship candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege won in two local government areas.

The Collation began at 9am Sunday morning with the announcement of result from Aniocha North, where the PDP candidate, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori polled 8,938 to votes, the gubernatorial candidate of the APC, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, scored 4,386.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Hon. Solomon Akpulonu and Chief Erondu Uchenna Erondu, both of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the winner of the Obingwa East and Obingwa West state constituencies in the Abia State House of Assembly.

Returning Officer for Obingwa East Constituency said Akpulonu polled 7,772 to defeat his closest rival, Peter Azubuike of the Labour Party, who scored 1,636.

He stated that Prince Matthew Chilaka of the YPP got 1, 257 while Daniel Mbonu of APGA scored 450 votes.

In Obingwa West state constituency, Returning Officer, Wokocha David said the PDP candidate, Erondu Uchenna Erondu polled 13,769, while the Labour Party, Mrs Victoria Onwubiko, scored 3,028.

INEC declares Kwara Speaker, 26-year-old Rukayat Shittu Winners of Assembly election

Speaker of Kwara state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, has been re-elected
to represent Ilesha-Gwanara state constituency in the Assembly election results released by INEC on Sunday.

Also, a 26-year-old former Senate President of Congress of NOUN Students (CONS) at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Rukayat Shittu has been declared winner as a fresh member of the Kwara state House of Assembly.

In the result announced by the INEC returning officer, Professor Hakeem Ijaya, Rukayat who contested on the platform of APC scored 7,521 votes to beat her
PDP rival polled 6,957 votes in the Saturday House of Assembly election.

Rukayat will represent Owode/Onire constituency in Asa local government of Kwara State House of Assembly.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the Kwara state Speaker, Rt. Hon Yakubu Danladi-Salihu of the APC winner of the Ilesha-Gwanara state constituency said he edged out his main contestant, Usman Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Declaring the result at the collation center for the Ilesha/Gwanara constituency at the Gwanara LGEA primary school, the Returning Officer, Dr. Adewale Rafiu, said Danladi-Salihu polled 14, 949 votes while his closest rival, Usman Abubakar of the PDP got 2,072 votes.

With this result, Danladi-Salihu has now won the seat of the Ilesha-Gwanara constituency for a second term.

Makinde wins Oyo governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde winner of the governorship election in the state.

Makinde polled a total of 563,617 votes while his closest rival, Sen. Teslim Folarin scored 251,230. Adebayo Adelabu of the Accord came a distant third polling 38,757.

Ondo: Fifteen arrested for electoral, criminal offences

No fewer than 15 persons have been arrested for their involvement in various electoral offences during last Saturday’s House of Assembly election in Ondo state.

A statement by the state police command image maker, Funmi Odunlami in Akure, said the suspects were arrested on election day in different parts of the state with some currently with the military.

Odunlami said that “The Command is committed to serving the people of the State with a high sense of responsibility, professionalism and universal policing best practices.

Governor Makinde clears 31 local govts

The incumbent Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has equalled the history of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi; to have become the second governor to secure re-election in the state.

Makinde, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, cleared 31 out of the 33 local government areas in the state.

He beat the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Teslim Folarin, and Accord Party, AP, candidate, Adebayo Adelabu.

Serving Ondo lawmakers defeated

Four serving members of the Ondo State House of Assembly, who sought re-election, have suffered defeat in Saturday’s March 18 election.

They include Tomide Akinribido (Ondo West 1 PDP); Favour Tomomewo (Ilaje 2, ADC); Taofeeq Muhammed (Akoko Northwest 2, APC) and Toluwani Borokini (Akure South1, APC).

However, four other incumbent lawmakers won their elections. They are Oluwole Emmanuel Ogunmolasuyi (Owo 1 APC/ Majority Leader); Oladiji Olamide (Ondo East APC); Ololade Gbegudu (Okitipupa 11, APC); and Abayomi Akinruntan (Ilaje 1, APC).

Recall that voting at VGC was moved to today due to issues the residents had with INEC officials.

PDP ahead, as collation begins in Delta

COLLATION of results in the Saturday’s governorship election has begun in the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The collation began at 9a.m., this morning with the announcement of result from Aniocha North, where the PDP candidate, Sheriff Oborevwori, polled 8,938 votes and APC candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, scored 4,386.

According to the results announced by the State Collation Officer, Prof. Georgewill Owuneri, the Labour Party candidate, Ken Pela, came a distant third with 1,883 votes.

In Ika North-East, Oborevwori scored 26,760 to come first, while Senator Ovie Omo-Agege got APC 4,733 votes.

In Ndokwa East, Oborevwori got 10,146 votes; Omo-Agege, 9,044, and Pela, 251.

The incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, is in early lead, as Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, continues with collation.

So far, Sanwo-Olu has 593,614 votes.

The Labour Party, LP, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour got 201,353 votes, while Olajide Adediran, Jandor, of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, got 53,827 votes.

Specifically, Governor Sanwo-Olu won Somolu LGA, polling 36,783 votes to defeat LP’s Gbadebo, who scored 15,096, while Jandor of PDP got 3,130 votes.

Recall that APC lost this local government at the presidential election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Surulere Constituency, Lagos State, Mr. Desmond Elliott, winner of the state Assembly election held on Saturday.

Elliott polled 17,837 votes to defeat his closest rival, Adebayo Bode of the Labour Party, LP, who had 7,822 votes.

Also, the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Thompson Sulaimon Abolaji, polled 1,045 votes.

The result was announced by the INEC Returning Officer, Dr. O. J. Fenuga.

The Lawmaker who revealed this, on Sunday, in a statement he personally signed and made available to newsmen said his party will reclaim its mandate very soon.

Hon. Abejide who is from Yagba East council area, however, eulogised his party supporters for standing firm to claim their victory in the neighbouring council area of Yagba West State Constituency.

The incumbent lawmaker representing Ekeremor Constituency I in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon Tari Porri, of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has retained his seat having been declared as the winner of the Saturday poll.

INEC returning officer for Ekeremor Constituency I, Bernard Ebiasuode who made the declaration, Sunday morning, said Porri scored 4,216 votes while the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) came second with 1562 votes. The Social Democratic Party (SDP), pulled 973 votes to come third. 

INEC puts the total votes cast at 7,473, invalid votes 107, while total valid votes 7,366.

Elections Result: Thugs kill 1 in Sokoto, destroy ballot papers

Suspected thugs in Gudu local government area of Sokoto state have shot and killed a voter while trying to protect the results of his polling unit in Marake village.

The thugs suspected to be members of the people’s democratic party PDP stormed the Polling Unit from a nearby village after realising that, they were defeated at the polling centre.

Narrating the episode the former legislator in the state house of Assembly and now contesting for the house of representatives Hon. Sani Alhaji Yakubu said, shortly after votes counting, the suspects grabs the ballot box and results sheets and tow them to pieces.

PDP National Secretary calls on INEC to release Imo authentic results

The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, on Sunday, called on the Owerri office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to announce only authentic results from the Houses of Assembly elections held last Saturday in Imo.

Anyanwu made this demand while speaking to newsmen in Owerri, on the outcome of the election said to have been characterized by violence, abduction of INEC staff, and intimidation of voters.

“Should INEC fails to declare the authentic results to show how the people of the state voted for the Peoples Democratic Party, it will be concluded that officials of the Commission deliberately compromised with agents of the ruling party to subvert the mandate of the people.

“Any fake results released other than the authentic ones, Imo people will not hesitate to reject it to demonstrate their grievances on the conduct of the polls in a peaceful manner.”

“The people of the state will not tolerate a repeat of what transpired during the last Presidential and National Assembly elections, advising the Commission to redeem its image by announcing transparent and authentic results.

“We are calling on Imo people to be law abiding and remain calm, the PDP National Scribe notes that all avenues will be activated to reclaim the party’s stolen mandates if officials of INEC fail to do the needful,” PDP Secretary said.

Plateau Speaker, Majority Leader lose to PDP

The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr. Yakubu Sanda, and the Majority Leader of the House, Mr. Na’anlong Daniel, both of the All Progressives Congress, APC, lost their re-election bids to the candidates of People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

INEC shifts polls in Rivers LGs to Sunday

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has shifted governorship and state assembly elections in Asari-Toru Local Government Areas and parts of neighboring Degema Local Government, where it failed to conduct the polls due to lapses, of Rivers State to tomorrow, Sunday, March 19.

Vanguard gathered there was commotion at the Registration Area Center (RAC) in Buguma, headquarters of Asari-Toru LGA, when voters couldn’t find the INEC Electoral Officers (EOs) and result sheets for the area.

It took the intervention of security agents on ground to calm the agitated voters who insisted on identifying the INEC EOs and result sheets before materials could leave the RAC to the various wards and polling units.

Under the tense situation, INEC ad hoc staff had to shut operations and return to base with the electoral materials.

Stating the commission’s position on the development, Dr. Johnson Sinikiem, Resident Electoral Commissioner, INEC, Rivers State, confirmed elections could not hold in Asari-toru and Ward 14 of Degema LGA.

“Elections could not hold in the mentioned places as a result of the voters resisting deployment of election officials and materials.

“Voters and other stakeholders demanded to see the ward collation officers before they would allow election to commence.

“At Ward 14 of Degema LGA, voters equally demanded that the SPO must come to the RAC with collation sheet which is the responsibility of collation officers, thereby not allowing election to hold.

“Standing on this premise and relying on Section 24 of the Electoral Act 2022, the INEC has decided to conduct the election of Asari-Toru local Government Area and Ward 14 of Degema Local Government Area on the 19 of March, 2023,” the REC stated.

Gunmen kidnap electoral officer in Imo

The INEC PRO in Imo State, Dr. Chinenye Osuji, said: “The elections in Isu Local Government went well.

“While the results collation was going on peacefully, unscrupulous elements came inside the office with tear-gas and gun. Gunshots drove everyone away.

“They abducted the EO, the returning officer and all the collation officers. All the staff were beaten up and the office destroyed.

“Some of us managed to escape for our dear lives.

“Please, the EO, Mrs. Achibie, is said to have been taken to an unknown destination.

“I have informed the security agencies and efforts are on top gear to secure her release, and her team.”

Senator Ademola delivers for Dapo Abiodun

Senator Solomon Adeola, APC Senator-elect for Ogun West, has won his polling unit at U.A.M.C School, Pahayi, Ilaro for APC and its governorship candidate, Prince Dapo Abiodun, against the closest rivals — ADC that scored 106 votes, and PDP’s 84.

Similarly, the Senator won his Ilaro Ward 1 with a total vote of 1,713, while ADC and PDP scored 1,094 and 915 votes, respectively, from the collated and announced by INEC officials.
Equally, results collated at the Situation Room of APC in Ogun West show that the Senator equally won Yewa South for APC, while it is certain that Ogun West will post huge votes for APC at the end of collation of the five LGAs of the district.

Speaking earlier to journalists after voting, Senator Adeola expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the governorship and state assembly elections.

Assembly: Soludo delivers Ward for APGA

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State successfully delivered his Isuofia Ward in Aguata Local Government Area for the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.

APGA scored 1,900 votes to beat the Labour Party, LP, which polled 431 votes. The YPP came third with 258, while PDP scored 33 votes.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, gubernatorial candidate, Teslim Folarin, lost his polling unit at Idi Ose, Ona Ara Local Government Area to Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Folarin polled 89 votes, Adelabu polled six, while Makinde polled 196 votes.

El-Rufai, Uba Sani win in their polling units

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state has delivered his Polling Unit 024 Ungwan Sarki, Kaduna to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Saturday governorship and state assembly elections, according to the Presiding Officer Haruna Shafiu.

Shehu, who announced the results said the APC candidate, Senator Uba Sani polled  257  votes as against the PDP Candidate, Isa Ashiru who scored 81 votes in the governorship poll.

He announced that New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) got 2 votes, while ADP scored 3 votes and PRP 4 votes.

The APC also won in polling unit 026 next to where Governor El-Rufai voted, with 146 votes, while PDP scored 61 votes.

The Presiding Officer at Polling Unit 026, Maryam Abubakar, announced the results that, NNPP and Labour Party scored two and three votes respectively.

At his Polling Unit in Kawo, Kaduna North Local Government Area, the APC Governorship Candidate, Senator Uba Sani floored the PDP and other parties.

The Presiding Officer said  APC’s Senator Uba Sani scored 85 votes to defeat his closest contender, PDP’s Isa Ashiru who polled 54 votes, while Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi of NNPP scored 12 votes.

President, Muhammadu Buhari has won his ward for the Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Dikko Umar Radda in the Saturday governorship and house of assembly elections held in Katsina today, Saturday.

The result announced by the ward’s collation officer, Hamza Yusuf, showed that APC scored 261 votes; PDP 32 while NNPP had no votes.

Similarly, For the State House of Assembly elections, APC scored 240 votes, PDP 50 and NNPP had 0 votes.

Governor Abiodun wins at Osoba’s polling unit

Former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba has won his polling booth at Omololu polling unit located in Government Reservation Area (GRA) in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the state for All Progressives Congress(APC).

The result governorship poll from the polling unit on showed that All Progressives Congress (APC) recorded 89, the results equally showed that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) polled 43, while Action Democratic Congress(ADC) recorded 36 and Social Democratic Party(SDP) with one vote.

The State Assembly results showed that the All Progressives Congress(APC) garnered 86 votes followed by People’s Democratic Party(PDP) with 46 votes, Action Democratic Congress(ADC) 26 and Labour Party (LP) 7 votes.

The deputy governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the Lagos governorship election, Olufunke Akindele, has lost her polling unit to the incumbent, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Akindele’s polling unit is 019, Ita Aro Square, Àga/Ijimu ward in Ikorodu, Lagos state, where she cast her vote earlier on Saturday.

Sanwo Olu polled a total of 77 votes to defeat PDP’s Olajide ‘Jandor’ Adeniran, and his running mate, Akindele, who scooped a total of 19 votes.

Labour Party’s candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour polled three votes, while Funsho Doherty of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled two votes.

Fight breaks at Abule-Ado, Abule Oshun

Massive fight has broken out at Abule-Ado and Abule-Oshun area of Satellite as area boys and thugs insist no one can vote unless he or she shows evidence it was going be for the ruling APC.

At Polling Unit 014, Abule-Ado, accreditation was barely half way done as at 11.45a.m., let alone voting.

Area boys at the unit tactically frustrated every move made by the INEC officials to have a smooth process.

Voters in the area complained that some thugs brought in bus-load of boys who bulldozed their way to the front row of the table where INEC officials sat and requested to be accredited for voting.

The INEC officials after searching for the names on the list a couple of times without success, asked them to give way for other people, but the demand fell on their deaf ears.

Police officers guarding the polling unit appeared to be helpless when this reporter approached them to take action.

The scores of people who have queued for hours were visibly frustrated and appeared to confront the situation in their own way.
Even when all the party agents at the unit elected to help the INEC officials in searching for the names, it eventually did not produce results.
Labour Party agent at the unit Mr Orji Chimezie, accused the police officers of colluding with the thugs who he alleged were APC members, to frustrate people from voting in the area known to be a Labour Party stronghold.

He appealed to INEC to request for Army officials to be sent to the are to maintain orderliness since, according to him, police has failed in that duty.

However, five minutes after his call, at about 12.05p.m., a massive fight broke out.

Scores of frustrated voters forced their way to the table and disrupted the process. A free-for-all ensued and the INEC officials threatened not to continue with conducting election in the unit under that circumstance.

At Polling Unit 04 Abule-Oshun, haggard looking street urchins, armed with guns and bottles, blocked the road and stopped those who didn’t declare for APC from going into the unit.

A little resistance from some group of boys caused serious arguments and in a moment sporadic gunshots rent the air, with broken bottles flying freely.

Everybody scampered for safety and INEC officials were not also exempted.

Soldiers brutalise Reps member in Benue

The lawmaker representing Buruku Federal Constituency, Mr. Kpam Sokpo was in the early hours of Saturday reportedly beaten to a pulp by suspected military personnel in a hotel in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue state.

The lawmaker who narrated his ordeal to newsmen said he was battered by the military personnel for no reasons whatsoever.

Mr. Sokpo said, “I dont know what came over them, I came to the hotel where I was staying in Gboko, Old Barn, around 2:30am and I sat there with some of my friends.

“And shortly after, about five trucks fill with over 60 soldiers came to the place. When they alighted from their vehicles they just tool position.

“I got up from where I was sitting to do something and one of them approached me and asked why I was walking in the manner I was walking.

“As I was talking he slapped me in the face. I asked why he did that, and I introduced myself as a House of Representatives member. I told him he did not know me and just slapped me in the face.

“Before I knew what was happening more than 30 of them just pounced on me using the butt of their guns to injure me.

“Some of the guns they used on me even broke into pieces. As I speak with you I have stitches on my face, on my head and I have all kinds of injuries on my body.

“While this was going on, their Commanding Officer came in and calmed the situation a bit. Shortly after they went on to harrass me and collected everything in my car, including every piece of paper.

“In fact, the one who started assaulting me threatened that he could even kill me. Unfortunately I did not get their names because they removed their name tags before assaulting me.

“Believe me, I do not know why they did this to me. I have gone to the hospital to stitch the cuts and treat myself, but I have reported the matter to the Police and the Security Adviser to the Governor of Benue State.”

Contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the 401 Special Force Brigade, Makurdi, Captain John Okozie said he would reach out to the personal in Gboko to find out what actually happened.

NDLEA nabs 4 party agents in Ogun with vote-buying credit cards

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, on election stop-and-search duty have intercepted four party agents with hundreds of money credit cards to buy votes at Ibara Housing Estate, Ogun state.

An NDLEA statement said: “Each card contains N10,000 and activated to cash with a code.

“The Chairman NDLEA, Brig-Gen Buba Marwa, has directed they be handed over to the Police after proper documentation.”

Residents of Festac town in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, Lagos, have reacted to the increased security presence in the area.

‘Cooperate, vote a particular party,’ thugs threaten journalist, voters in Lagos

At about 10a.m., nine youths on three motorcycles stormed Polling Unit 006 on Mosalasi Road, Egan, Igando.

Voters were sitting and standing in clusters, awaiting arrival of polling officials. One of the men that came on motorcycles approached me and gruffly asked me to shut down my phone.

His colleagues shouted at the crowd of waiting voters that they could vote only for a particular party.

Later, after noticing my media tag, they came back and apologised but warned me to ‘cooperate’.

They then left on their bikes towards the next polling station down the street.

Residents are agitated.

An INEC official by name, Folayemi, refused to allow her colleagues use legally constituted polling units inside VGC.

3 die in Katsina governor’s convoy in accident

Two security aides, Kabir Adamu and Nura Safiyanu, and one civilian aide, Amadu Ali, to Governor Bello Masari of Katsina State were killed in a road accident last night on their way to the governor’s home town, Kafur, for today’s governorship and houses of assembly elections.

According to reports, the incident occurred along Jikamshi Village, Musawa LGA of Katsina State.

Some among the convoy also sustained various degree of injuries and are currently being treated at a hospital.

The spokesperson of the Katsina Police Command, SP Isah Gambo, confirmed the development.

Scores injured as APC, PDP supporters clash in Oyo

Several people were, in the early hours of Saturday, injured when supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, clashed in Ward 7, Ibarapa East East, Oyo State.

According to reports, trouble started when some suspected supporters of PDP allegedly attacked a bus carrying some people to the election ground.

In a reprisal attack, some supporters of APC were said to have traced the leaders of the attackers to their hideout where a free-for-all ensued, leaving many people wounded.

At least, one of the wounded was said to be on danger list at an undisclosed hospital in the town.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to contact the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, to comment on the matter, proved abortive, as calls placed across to him were not answered.

We’ll, as usual, bring you live updates on the elections from across the country, in exciting briefs, pictures and videos.

Voters will be electing new governors and their deputies in 28 states and representatives for 993 state houses of assembly constituencies in the 36 states.

Two other elections will hold. One is the Enugu East senatorial district election, while the second is the Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben federal constituency of Edo State. They are not supplementary but main elections that could not be held earlier.

Governorship elections are not holding in Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Osun and Ondo, as polls to the offices of governors of the states are held off-cycle and not part of the general election.
